BASEMENT OR UTILITY ROOM

	Do you know where your main gas and water valves are and how to use them?
	Are washer and dryer grounded?
	Do you know how to light the pilot on your furnace and water heater?
	Do you call the gas company if you suspect a leaky valve?
	Do you know where your electrical main switch is and how to use it?
	Do you have your gas appliances vented to the outside if required?
	Do you pull the main switch before changing fuses?
	Do you have plenty of fuses on hand and use only the correct size fuse?
	Do you know what caused blown fuse?
	Do you keep combustibles away from heat source (hot bulbs, furnace...)?
	Do you have a 20 amp kitchen circuit?
	Do you have a metal ironing board or an asbestos pad on a wood board?
	Do you keep chemicals locked up?

YARD

Do you return tools when done?

Do you get help for difficult jobs?

Do you limit your time in the sun?

Is your TV antenna grounded?

Do you use lighter fluid (not gas)?

Do you keep ladders in good shape?

Do you keep children from mower?

Do you use care on ladders?

Are walks in good repair?

Are clothes lines high enough to walk under?

Are ponds and pools fenced off?

Are dry leaves kept from lights?

Do you keep cover on trash burner when using it?

GARAGE

Is your garage well lighted?

Do you check around car before you back up?

Do you set handbrake when parked?

Is garage kept neat?

KITCHEN

Do you use nonskid wax on floors?

Do you wipe up spills right away?

Do you safely store knives, etc.?

Do you have pot holders near stove?

Are stove and sink well lighted?

Do you turn pot handles away from stove front?

Do you open oven before turning on gas to light it?

Do you keep electric appliances away from sink and operate them only with dry hands?

Do you use a stepstool when needed?

Do you regularly clean range hood?

Do you have emergency phone #'s?

Do you keep cabinet doors closed?

Do you keep poisons locked up?

Do you keep a clear workspace near stove for hot dishes?

WORKSHOP

	Do you keep thinners and solvents in metal cans?
	Disconnect power tools when they are not being used?
	Do you store oily rags in air tight metal cans?
	Do you use safety glasses?
	Do you keep chemicals locked up?
	Do you have good light and vents?
	Do you ground all power tools?
	Do you keep tools in good repair? Do you keep tool guards in place?
	Do you avoid using vaporizing chemicals in confined spaces.
	Do you keep gasoline powered machinery out of the house and drain gas when machine is out-of-season?
	Do you use the right tool for job?

STAIRS

Do all stairs have handrails?

Are all stairs well lighted?

Do you keep toys off stairs?

Do you avoid using stairs for storage?

Do you keep treads, carpets, etc. in good repair?

GENERAL

Do you avoid overloading electrical circuits?

Do you regularly check all electrical cords for damage?

Do you have operable smoke detectors well located?

Do you have charged fire extinguishers of correct type in recommended locations?

Do you have an escape route?

Have you discussed and practiced escape route with family?

Do you have a well-stocked first aid kit?

Do you lift with legs, not back?

Do you have safety plugs on outlets for toddlers?

Is home lighting protected?

Do you have GFl's in wet areas?

BATHROOM

Do you have nonskid surfaces on tubs and showers?

Do you have a grab bar in your tub or shower?

Are all medicines locked up?

Are medicines clearly labeled?

Do you read medicine labels?

Do you dry your hands before using electrical appliances?

Do you avoid using hairsprays near flame or when smoking?

LIVING-DINING-BEDROOM

Do you have a nonskid backing on small rugs and avoid their use at the top of stairs?

Do you unplug instant-on TV when you are away from home?

Do you have a lamp within reach of bed?

Do you keep traffic areas clear?

Do you use a fireplace screen?

Do you regularly clean chimney?

Do you keep combustibles away from fireplace and wood burning stoves?
