Description of Services

The Health Division works with the Board of Health (the appointed decision-making board for health matters) to assess the health needs of the town and to develop initiatives to protect the public welfare. By evaluating current health services and enforcing state and local health regulations, the division seeks to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases and to control environmental health hazards.. The Health Division works with local schools, the Council on Aging, local health providers, and various town agencies to evaluate and ensure effective health and safety programs tailored to specific groups and the general needs of the community.

The Health Division also provides a valuable resource for information on numerous health issues. Lexington residents, workers and visitors to the town may turn to the Health Division to learn about a variety of community-based services, or for help navigating the private and public health care systems.

The many health protection programs run by this division include food safety instruction, pool and camp inspections,  a tobacco control program, lead control, and a hazardous household products collection program. Information on these programs is available at this website.

Lexington Health Regulations

Health and safety issues are regulated by a variety of Federal, State and local codes. The relevant regulations for each area of concern is noted in the description of that health program.  You may also wish to examine Lexington's local health regulations.  You can view the Board of Health Regulations under Chapter 155 of the Town of Lexington Code
