A POLICE DEPARTMENT REGISTRY TO ASSIST PERSONS AT RISK

The "At Risk" file was originally introduced to the community as the "Alzheimer's" file.  Families with one or more members afflicted with an Alzheimer // dementia disability provided personal information that could help locate the person if he or she became lost.  Local nursing homes also participated in this program.  Typically, a recent photograph with a physical description of the person was kept on file.  In the event that the person became lost or otherwise reported missing, the file provided valuable information to patrol officers engaging in a search.

Our present "At Risk" file broadens the population of individuals considered at risk.  Two members of the police department have family members in elementary school who are autistic.  Their personal experiences helped our agency to recognize the number of disabilities that might result in a person (adult or child) getting lost, running away or getting into a difficult situation.  The "At Risk" file allows family members to offer valuable information for locating and/or interacting with the at risk person.  The person is entered into the police computer with an alert code that the person is "At Risk" and that a file is available.

The "At Risk" information is a voluntary program.  Participants may offer as little or as much information as they feel comfortable providing.  We interpret the meaning of “at risk” broadly in hopes of identifying any behavior that could endanger the adult or child.  The family services Detective Christina Demambro is available on a regular basis to answer questions.  She can be reached at (781) 862-1212.   You can access the form by using the hyper-link below.
