As required by law, found property is held by the Lexington Police Department for one year.  We would like to return this property to the owner whenever possible.  If an owner is not found, the property is then returned to the finder (if known), donated to a non-profit organization, or auctioned with proceeds going to Lexington’s general fund.

Bicycles

Due to the volume of space required for bicycles, they are held for a minimum of three months before being returned to the finder, donated, or auctioned.  Bicycle owners are encouraged to comply with the bicycle registration laws – bicycle registration stickers are available at the police station for two dollars.  Bicycles with registration stickers will be returned whenever possible to the registered owner.
