Budget Awards

Logo of the Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA)The Town of Lexington is proud to produce a budget which meets our fundamental commitment to transparency and fiscal accountability. Our efforts to provide the citizens of Lexington with the best and most inclusive budget possible have not gone unnoticed. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has continually awarded the Town of Lexington its prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the last 9 years in a row. Lexington is one of only 7 communities in Massachusetts to receive the award annually.

In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan and as a communication device. Each award is valid for one year. The current award is valid for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005.

Recognition concerning the budget is not as valuable however as the constant feedback we receive from fellow fiscal professionals and Lexington citizens with which staff can continue to improve the document. We believe our current budget continues to conform to program requirements, and we will submit it to GFOA to determine its eligibility for another award.
