Lexington Public Health Emergency Planning The Lexington Board of Health belongs to Region 4A for emergency preparedness. In 2003, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts organized its 351 cities and towns into five public health regions under a newly established Center for Emergency Preparedness. The Town of Lexington Health Department is one of thirty-four communities in Region 4A that has been working on regional readiness planning. In addition, the Health Department collaborates locally with all town departments, including but not limited to, Town Management, Fire, Police, Senior Services, and DPW in emergency planning. Currently, Region 4A is in the process of forming a Regional Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) consisting of volunteers who will be able to assist towns with specific needs in the event of a natural disaster or public health emergency. To date, Lexington has approximately 350 medical and 40 non medical professional volunteers from the community within the Lexington Health Department's database. This plan includes information, plans, and outlines for emergency management, all incident response, infectious disease response, shelter support, mass fatality support, vaccination dispensing site management, chemical/biological/radiological response, risk communication, mutual aid, and continuity of operations and many other components. This information will be treated with confidentiality and will be used to aid us in emergency planning for special populations. Emergency Preparedness at Home: The success of a community's emergency response depends on the planning that occurs prior to the emergency. Every sector of our community must commit to preparing for emergencies, beginning on an individual level and extending to neighbors and loved ones.
